Job Role: Machinist

Job Description:

Machinists are skilled tradespeople who operate and maintain machines that cut, shape, and form metal and other materials. They use a variety of tools and equipment, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders, to produce precision parts for a variety of industries, such as aerospace, automotive, and medical.

Responsibilities:

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Setting up and adjusting machines to produce parts that meet specifications
  • Operating machines to cut, shape, and form metal and other materials
  • Inspecting finished parts to ensure they meet quality standards
  • Performing routine maintenance and repairs on machines
  • Keeping accurate records of production and inventory
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational or technical training in machining
  • Several years of experience as a machinist
  • Knowledge of machine shop mathematics and blueprint reading
  • Proficient in the use of various machine shop tools and equipment
Qualifications:
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy materials
  • Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) and computer numerical control (CNC) software is a plus

Salary Range:

The average salary for a machinist in the USA is around $45,000 per year, with a range of $35,000 to $60,000 per year.
